Lawyer says nanny suffered from mental illness, didn’t plan to kill kids

The nanny charged in the fatal slashings of two young children in an Upper West Side bathtub six years ago “lacked the ability to make any decisions” the day of the murders, her attorney charged Thursday. “The evidence will show that she suffered from a mental illness,” attorney Valerie Leer-Greenberg said about nanny Yoselyn Ortega. “My argument is that there was no planfulness and no deliberation.” Ortega, 55, is charged with stabbing Lucia Krim, 6, and Leo Krim, 2, to death in October 2012 after their mother Marina Krim had left their West 75th Street apartment.
