The tears are still there, along with the fears. But it’s time.
The students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
will return to the classroom Wednesday, two weeks after 19-year-old
Nikolas Cruz gunned down 17 staff and students and wounded 16 in one of
the nation’s worst school shootings..
Nothing will ever be the same as before Valentine’s Day 2018, but the school year must continue.
“I
have to go back to school ... look at empty desks. Try my hardest to
feel safe,” tweeted Conor Dietrich, a junior who lobbied legislators in
Tallahassee last week for stricter gun laws. “And worst of all try not
to think about all the people I miss. This is going to be the hardest
part by far.”
